Fruit Liqueurs

Cherry Rocher liqueur advertisement

Fruit liqueurs are alcoholic beverages bottled with added sugar and have flavors derived from fruits. They are distinct from eaux-de-vie, fruit brandies, and flavored liquors, which contain no added sugar.

Fruit liqueurs range between 15% and 55% alcohol by volume, or 30 - 110 proof.

Theoretically, all fruits lend themselves to the making of liqueurs but the four that are most popular are apricot, cherry, blackberry and peach. Whatever the product, the juice of the fruit - which contains the flavor - must first be extracted. These juices are concentrated and blenders choose the flavors which best enhance the liqueur. (
