Ardbeg Tasting Glass

Ardbeg Distillery mousepad
Produced since 1798, the Ardbeg whiskey was originally used in blended whisky, rather than as a single malt. Today, its single malt is considered to be one of the peatiest in the world. The name Ardbeg is derived from the Scottish Gaelic: Àrd Beag, meaning "Little Height."

Distilled on the south coast of the isle of Islay, Scotland.

Scotch in Outer Space
In 2011, vials of whiskey particles and pieces of charred oak they were treated with were sent to the International Space Station to see how compounds in whiskey interact with charred oak in the micro-gravity of space. The "terpenes," as the whiskey compounds are called, have never before been grown in zero gravity. They return to Earth in September, 2014.
